Saturday / It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we plan on holding onto this feeling (and our Christmas tree) for as long as possible. While I do normally lean towards neat and tidy, there is one thing that I really don’t like to clean up until it feels like I absolutely have to. And that is the Christmas morning mess of wrapping paper, cards, and opened gifts. There is just something about seeing that happy cheer strewn about under the tree that warms my heart. So yes, Christmas was three days ago, but the remains of our Christmas morning are very much still here.

Sunday / So we tried a new recipe today that has been on our “to make” list for quite some time, the “original” fettuccine alfredo. No, not the thick and creamy American version, the real deal Roman version. Months ago we came across a YouTube video from Ristorante Alfredo alla Scrofa, sharing their famous “ricetta orginale.” And after watching said video, both of our interests were definitely peaked. So today was the day. We made the fresh pasta, we followed the recipe. And as it turns out, it wasn’t exactly for us. It sort of ended up tasting like a very complicated way of making lightly buttered noodles.
Monday / Today was a special wifey treat kind of day. Ryan took me over to our absolute favorite (and completely adorable) local movie theater for some extra buttered popcorn, a cup of ice cream, and the afternoon showing of Little Women. Personally I still prefer the 1994 version (which features a pretty epic cast), but it was still the perfect little Monday date.
Tuesday / Today is one of the few days during the year that we stay up waayyyyy too late. Actually nope, not at all :) For us, the joy is simply in the being together. So we cooked dinner at home (grilled pizza) (because our oven unexpectedly broke yesterday, and so our plan of doing puff pastry baked brie was suddenly no longer an option), we drank some delicious red wine and champagne, we stayed in our jammies (of course), and we watched Holiday Inn. It was the perfect cozy, stay home and do nothing sort of New Year’s Eve.
Wednesday / We started this New Year (and new decade) the best way we know how. We went for an early morning run along the beach, followed by a couple of cups of hot (decaf) coffee, and a couple of donut holes. It’s definitely life’s simple pleasures that make each day so memorable and special. Oh, and sprinkles. Sprinkles definitely make everything special.
Thursday / Somehow I got things a bit turned about this morning, and I rolled up to Costco at around 9:30 a.m. Spoiler alert, Costco doesn’t open up until 10 a.m. So instead of running to do a different errand first, I decided to just sit in the car and do some emails. Interestingly enough, it turns out that a lot of people purposely show up to Costco early. A hearty line of shoppers with carts outside the entrance started at around 9:35 a.m. Go figure!
Friday / I had a hard time falling asleep last night (which I blame on my sometimes overactive brain), so I felt surprised when I woke up early this morning, raring to go. Ryan had barely asked me if I wanted coffee or tea when I was already reaching for my sneakers to head out the door to Coronado. The weather has turned a bit milder lately (much to my dismay), and so I have really been enjoying getting out first thing in the morning when the air is still cool and damp. Plus I can’t really complain about this view. We are most definitely blessed.
I always loved sitting in my wrapping paper hoard as a child while I played with my new toys!
That’s such a happy memory to have!
