Road Trip

We just got back from a great road trip to Utah.  In fact, I should be more clear.  We just got back from a road trip to Utah where we camped and hiked!  Honestly, I don’t think that I ever pictured myself being the camping type (although there was a hotel mixed in the middle to keep spirits up), but I really loved it.  For any of you looking for a great road trip from Southern California, or a road-tripsiration for the West, I think that I have a pretty great itinerary for you to follow.

We set out early on Day 1 to try and beat any rush hour traffic, and to try and make a reasonable arrival time for our first destination, Zion National Park.  The drive was great – it is an easy drive, the scenery is beautiful, and there are a lot of interesting roadside stops to keep you entertained.

After driving through the mountains for awhile, we then started to hit the more interesting part of the drive – all of quirky roadside stops.

After our 8 hour journey, we finally arrived in Springdale, Utah.

After arriving at the park, we checked into our campsite, and then spent the next two hours being mildly frustrated with trying to put our tent together.  I hadn’t put up a tent since I was a kid, and the Mr., well, this was his first time.  So between the two of us, we took turns trying to figure it out with breaks to enjoy our popcorn appetizer, and a little champagne to toast to our travels.

After we finally finished assembling our tent, we were able to relax and get our dinner together.  We planned to cook over the fire each night, and for our first night, we started simple with some grilled hot dogs and corn.  We relaxed around the fire, ate a bunch of s’mores and toasted marshmallows, and then called it early knowing that we had big exciting plans for our next day.

    1. Road trips are great! I especially love that I don’t need to worry about over packing, I can just keep throwing things in the car!
