Saturday / Did anyone else grow up watching such classics as “Nothing But Trouble,” “the Burbs” or even “Uncle Buck?” Yep, while other families were most likely snuggling up on the sofa watching “the Sound of Music,” my Dad was putting on “Edward Scissorhands” or the like. And although I was mildly scared (and scarred) as a child, thanks to him, I am probably one of the few San Diegans who quickly recognized that whoever lives in this house clearly grew up watching the same movies that I did.
Sunday / For what seems like the first part of your life, weekends are solely for fun. No school, play dates, movie nights, junk food, lazy mornings. . .yep, all fun. But then one day you wake up and you’re an adult. And suddenly weekends are for errands, and cleaning, and laundry. . .and basically all things not fun. And on my list of “things that aren’t fun to do on the weekend,” going to Target ranks pretty high. But not because I don’t love Target. Because I do. Trust me. Or even better, ask my husband. I love Target. But Target on the weekend feels a little bit like my own personal hell – the crowds, the lines, the parking lot, and those picked over shelves are just too much for me. But since Target had to be done, we decided to make a quick pit-stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for their delicious pumpkin spiced coffee. And while it did not cure the chaos that was Target, it did put a pep in my step.
Monday / I don’t know why, but I love to get mail. Especially magazines. It sort of feels like a special little treat just for me. But funny enough, I actually tend not to flip through our magazines until I have a good sized stack collected. I sort of save them up for a few months. Basically until Ryan starts to give me the stink eye about my growing collection. And today was the day. The stink eye came out, and I knew better than to press my luck.
Tuesday / There are a lot of things that get me excited for Fall. But maybe nothing so much as the moment that the stores roll out their giant bins of pumpkins, gourds, and mini boos. And today while picking up a few things at Whole Foods, I basically used all of my will power not to load up our trunk (and our apartment) with pumpkins. Well, not yet at least.
Wednesday / Today we brought home some recycling bags from the Container Store. Yep, stopping into the Container Store was probably the last thing that I needed to be doing today (especially since we are going out of town tomorrow), but I had convinced myself that it would be a quick stop. Well, I now know that saying that you are going to make a “quick” stop at the Container Store, is kind of like saying that you are going to Target for just one thing. It just doesn’t happen. But who needs to even think or worry about packing when you could be organizing your recyclable items, am I right?
Thursday / There’s truly no place like home. And home we are now. Back with my family for the week, and my heart could not be any happier. Our plan is simple: disconnect from technology and work, and connect with family and the complete enjoyment of not having a plan or a care in the world. Amen to that.
Oh my gosh, Nothing But Trouble is the weirdest movie! It freaked me out when I was little!
Right?!? Definitely one of the odder movies out there…but still a classic!
