After a goods nights sleep, we both woke up feeling ready to explore Capitol Reef. Luckily we had been tipped off by a fellow camper, so we knew exactly where our first stop would be. About 30 feet from our camping site sat the Gifford House.
No longer used as a house, but as a bakery. We stopped in to pick up an apple pie to share for breakfast, still hot out of the oven!
After thoroughly enjoying our apple pie, we set out to explore for the day. (Just as a quick side note to anyone who plans on going to Capitol Reef during the month of March, try to time your visit for March 14th (3/14), it’s pie day, and they sell all of their pies for just $3.14!)
Our first stop was a quick hike out to Hickman Bridge. It was great, we had a nice quiet morning and had the whole bridge to ourselves.
After Hickman Bridge, we choose to do the scenic drive through the park. This was also really nice – it was very relaxing, and there were a lot of different cool rock formations and different colored rocks along the way. (You can probably imagine that I have about 1,000 pictures of rocks at this point of the trip.)
Apple pie and cool rocks, sounds like a pretty rockin’ day to me!
