Today we walked 20 miles. I kid you not. I don’t really know if I am excited or kind of feel like I want to die. I told my husband that if we had only walked a few more miles we could have joked that we were marathoners, right? I mean, can you say that you are a marathoner, even if you walked it…not on purpose…while on vacation?
Well, almost-marathoners or not, we walked all over Bangkok. At the start of our day, as we walked, we were constantly barraged by the honking of cabs and tuk-tuks to pick us up and drive us around. But by the end of the day, it was almost like the drivers recognized us and knew not even to ask. By the end of the day, no one was honking at us. “Oh those people, they just want to walk everywhere. Don’t even bother honking.”
Our final destination for today was Lumpini Park (because wouldn’t you want to go walking in the park after already walking all day long?). Yes, by the time we got to Lumpini Park, both of our legs were sore, and mind you, it was over 100° again today, so we were quite hot as well. Maybe today was not the best planned out day, but I don’t think that either one of us ever really planned on almost becoming marathoners while in Bangkok.
And actually, even though we were tired and hot, Lumpini Park was such a beautiful place to finish our day. If you didn’t know any better, you would almost think that you were in New York City walking through Central Park. (Well, that is until you notice the 6 foot long Monitor Lizards crawling all over, oh, and the palm trees.)
We enjoyed the afternoon, just strolling through the park (partially because our legs couldn’t move any faster), and enjoyed the fresh air and the beautiful green scenery. After a long day of touring through temples, the park was a great change of pace, and a nice way to relax and unwind.
After we finished walking the entire park (we had to do the entire thing because my husband has serious fomo), we were just about ready to collapse. Luckily for both of us, I had planned for us to get a Sunset drink overlooking the park. An activity that involved sitting, and well…just that, sitting.
Unfortunately the weather didn’t get the memo about our plans, and it was pretty overcast, but regardless the views were still really spectacular. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, and toasted our day with some champagne.
We sipped our champagne, chatted about our day, and just finally relaxed a bit. After sitting for a little though, both of our tummies started rumbling, and we knew that it was time to find a dinner spot. Since we didn’t feel like doing any more wandering, I connected to my TEP, and we were able to find the perfect place to grab some dumplings in a jiffy.
Once we knew we had a dinner plan lined up, we relaxed some more and enjoyed the shift from day to night. And sitting, we just enjoyed sitting. In fact, we kind of didn’t want to get up.
But with one final sip of Champagne, we toasted to a wonderfully full day in Bangkok, and were on our merry way. Exhausted? Yes. But, we wouldn’t trade it for the world. After all, we are now officially almost-walked-a-marathoners, right?

Thank you to TEP Wireless for sponsoring this post. If you haven’t heard of TEP before, they are a great company that rents or sells wireless hot spots for your worldwide travels. I’ve now used mine in Italy and Thailand, and truly couldn’t travel without it. Being able to stay connected anywhere and in a pinch is priceless (especially when you have a bad sense of direction). If you have any future travel plans, make sure to check them out!
My legs are still sore from that day! That was arguably the most refreshing glass of Champs ever! But we had so much fun exploring together that 20 miles went by so quickly! I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I agree <3
WHOA!!!! Impressive. What do you find is the most effective way to track steps?
We don’t use watches or pedometers, our phones both have programs that track your steps. We weren’t planning on tracking our steps while away, but since we had walked a lot, we were curious to take a look!
