Enjoying the Fruita of Our Labor

Having escaped the snow and cold, we were more than ready for some milder temperatures.  As we drove into more of a desert climate, we enjoyed the scenery that accompanied it.

DSC03626We decided to break up our driving for the day with a hike, so we stopped at the Calf Creek Recreation Area to hike to Calf Creek Falls.

After finishing our hike, we got back in the car and pushed on towards our final destination for the day, Capitol Reef National Park.

It didn’t take us too much longer to get there, but it felt like such a relief to arrive.  The temperature had climbed up to 70°, and everything was so beautiful.  We drove through the park and found where we would be camping at the Fruita Campground.  Named so, because it is in the middle of an orchard…how cool is that?!?  Since it is only early Spring, there were only a few buds on the trees, but it was still the most picturesque campground you could imagine.

After setting up shop, we grilled up a feast of a dinner – cowboy steaks and baked potatoes roasted on the coals of the fire.

Since it was milder than our other stops, we decided to stay up later around the campfire and enjoy some wine and campfire songs.
