Host and Hostess Gifts Under $20

Expressing gratitude is something that is very important to me. And no matter how we share our gratitude – through verbal communication, an email, a text message, a handwritten note, or even a small gift – it is always a beautiful gift that you are giving to someone else. Just a little way to show that person how important they are to you, or to show them that you value what they are doing for you. And at this time of year, there is definitely plenty of gratitude to pass around.

Over the past few years I have tucked away some of my favorite gift ideas that I have read about, or heard about. And just in time for the holidays and all of the merriment to be in full swing, I have put together this little gift guide, featuring some of our most favorite things that we have used as host and hostess gifts.

afeltra italian grain tortiglioni + ligurian pesto / san giuliano extra virgin olive oil

When I first heard about this idea years ago, I immediately fell in love with it: bring your host something easy that they can use to make for dinner the following night. Often times there is a lot of work that goes into a dinner party, or hosting guests. And so bringing a “meal” for your host to enjoy is a great way to help them relax.

illume balsam & cedar candle / copper cow coffee / barefoot dreams socks

Gifts that feel cozy are always a home-run in my book – a specialty candle, a hot cup of coffee from local grounds, or my personal favorite, a pair of snuggly socks. Something that your host can immediately enjoy after all of the guests have left.

tea forté warming joy tea box / muzzi tommaso panettone / see’s candies bridge mix

You really can’t go wrong with something sweet. But sweet can mean different things to different people – it could be a cup of tea with honey, a slice of seasonal panettone, or yes, chocolates. And if you are in the market for chocolates, I can’t recommend See’s Candies enough.

guesstures / saint cosme cotes-du-rhone / “a gentleman in moscow

And then something a bit more personal – a new game that you think that your host might enjoy, a bottle of wine that you can share a story about, or a handpicked hardcover book. Stop into your local bookshop, and describe your host’s interests to one of the employees, and I guarantee you that you will find something that is just the right fit.
