Homemade Natural Glass Cleaner

When it comes to cleaning solutions (and this is probably going to sound a bit silly), I have always had a thing for a good glass cleaner. And honestly, I probably unknowingly inherited this from my father. But the satisfaction of having something sparkle because it’s so clean really sparks joy for me. Yep, I love me a good glass cleaner.

But when we started working on creating our own homemade and natural cleaners, I quickly became aware of all of the chemicals that were in my beloved glass cleaner. Well, maybe not completely aware. Because as it turns out, cleaning companies are not required to print their ingredients on the products that we purchase. But knowing that the companies were guarding these ingredients was enough for me to imagine that the product I was using was most likely not organic or natural.

So after the resounding success (and ease) with our Natural All-Purpose Cleaner, and then our Natural Granite Cleaner, my beloved glass cleaner was next. It was time for me to say my goodbyes to that oddly satisfying purple-dyed solution with it’s chemically-produced fresh scent. Yes, it was time. Out with the old and in with the natural.

Homemade Natural Glass Cleaner

1 Cup 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol

1 Cup Filtered Water

1 Tblsp. Organic White Vinegar

Pour all of your ingredients into a clean, reusable spray bottle, and simply shake it a few times to combine. Then spray and use as needed!

Our natural glass cleaner works great on any mirror, glass, or other smooth surface. But as a reminder, just as you would with any new product, test this glass cleaner on an inconspicuous surface first, and never use this on natural stone.

Tips and Tidbits:

  • Our recipe can be easily halved, doubled, etc. . .depending on the size of the bottle that you are using to hold the cleaning solution.
  • We like to keep our cleaning solutions organized by different colored spray bottles. We use green for our all-purpose cleaner, pink for our granite cleaner, and blue for this glass cleaner. (Although these colors will be slightly changing because we have recently switched from plastic bottles to these glass ones from Grove Collaborative.)
  • To help cut down on waste, we also use reusable microfiber cleaning cloths. Not only do they hold up better and not leave behind any fibers, but they also wash like a dream. (And trust me, being able to clean a mirror and not have fibers left behind is a dream!)
  • The science behind using the 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol, is basically that it takes longer to evaporate. Which in turn means that it is sitting on the surface of whatever you are cleaning for a few extra seconds = greater cleaning power.
