Meditation

My Mom has been participating in the Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra Meditation series for some time now.  She forwards us all a reminder email with a sweet note encouraging us to join in and feel the positive effects of meditation and mindfulness.  Well, I’ve been a bit of a naughty daughter up until now and have yet to join in.  But something came over me yesterday morning while I was getting ready for church and I figured, even though I’m a week late, I might as well put it on and see what I think.

It’s probably no surprise that I really enjoyed it.  Oprah is so well spoken, and so enjoyable to listen to, and I found Deepak to be the same.  I think that the whole meditation was about 20 minutes – I didn’t keep track of time, but it felt very quick.  Regardless of time, it was very enjoyable to take a few quiet minutes to clear my head and slow down.  (Which honestly can be a bit hard for me.)

Yesterday’s meditation theme was, “Total Balance is Natural Balance,” and the centering thought was “My true self leads me to an inspired self.”  Following my successful and inspiring weekend at #wits16, these thoughts felt very welcoming and encouraging to me.

You might be able to guess by the title of the meditation series (“Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit”that it is slightly geared towards weight loss.  But my Mom had mentioned that this wasn’t solely a weight-loss meditation, but a spiritual and emotional weight loss too – letting go of things that we hold onto in life.  I am all for clearing out the clutter in my life, whether it be physical or emotional, and making room for new positive energy and experiences.

I’m not sure why I haven’t done one of the previous 9 meditations, but I feel excited about participating in this one.  I don’t want to give too much away, because I’m hopeful that the suspense will encourage you to hop on over and sign up!

“It is never too late to give yourself an opportunity.  It is a gift that you are giving yourself, enjoy it.”
