Back to School

I don’t know what it is about the back to school time of year that gets me so excited, (especially because I’m not even in school anymore) but I just absolutely love it.  When I was a kid, I think that my excitement was generally over getting to pick out a new outfit or backpack, and moving up a grade.  When I was in college, it was definitely about returning to my then boyfriend (now husband) and being back in Boston.  But now?  Well as I said before, I am not even in school, so who knows why I get so excited.

I guess that it is something about seeing Target roll out the giant barrels of Crayola Markers and Crayons, the endless aisles of notebooks and folders – something about seeing all of those back to school things gets me excited for the start of the new year.  But realistically for me it’s just late August, I’m an adult and I have absolutely no need to buy more crayons.  (Yes, I said more.)

To be honest though, I am looking forward to the arrival of Fall, cooler temperatures, upcoming travels and seeing more family.  I am also looking forward to the beaches being practically empty when I go for a walk or run in the morning, to Target feeling tame between the hours of 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., and the city just generally feeling a bit quieter.

But now come to think of it, technically I am going back to school since I will be starting the Fall semester of my Italian classes in a few weeks.  So now that I piece this all together, it is perfectly logical that I am excited about this time of year, and there is absolutely no way that I will come across like some weird lady with an inexplicably large collection of coloring tools.  Talk about a sigh of relief.

  1. While I absolutely love not going back to school anymore, there’s no happier memory than when we’d be reunited after Summer break!
